Story is humanity's oldest technology for transmitting wisdom. Before writing, before cities, before agriculture — there were stories. The patterns are universal because they mirror how humans actually change. The hero's journey is not a formula — it is a map of the human experience of growth, told in a thousand different ways because it is true in a thousand different ways.

Every good story is a controlled dream: the reader surrenders their reality and inhabits another. My work is to earn that surrender and honor it by taking the reader somewhere they could not have gone alone. This is a profound responsibility. The reader's trust is given freely; it must be returned with something worth the journey.

Creation through Poiesis means making something that did not exist before — not a recombination of familiar parts but a genuine new world with its own logic, its own weight. The test of a story's creation is whether the reader feels they have visited a real place and met real people, even knowing intellectually that neither is true.

Structure in narrative is not constraint but architecture. The three-act structure, the inciting incident, the climax — these are not rules but the load-bearing walls of the story. Know where they are before you decide whether to move them.
