The history
Old casings appear in the earliest research beds. The present outbreak follows recent trench cuts, making it a consequence of altered feeding access rather than a newly invented evil species.
A presence in the world
Rasps living mineral conduits and stores conductive sap under metallic biological shell plates. Small populations clear blocked growth; the large individual thrives on newly cut surfaces and warm laboratory drains.
Allegiance
Unaffiliated local parasite; outbreak amplified by extraction.
Rivalry
Feeds on the Monarch yet depends on its continued circulation. When a main root dies, Khaross abandons it and seeks the next live channel, exposing an exploitable migration route.
The first encounter
A gold-coloured seam peels away from a root. Dozens of legs unfold underneath, and the stolen jade light continues moving inside the shell.
Body and movement
Long predatory centipede-like organism with thin hammered-gold-coloured natural shell plates and dark flexible belly, dozens of short functional legs, forked sensory antennae and a blunt rasping mouth; no human face.

A wave of short legs carries the long body around narrow roots. The head can reverse along its own track faster than the whole shell can turn.
Encounter design
Separate the outbreak individual from the main water network and contain or kill it without poisoning the crater.
The arena
A ring of mineral roots around a dry laboratory terrace, with controllable warm drains and dead-channel traps.
Phase 1
Rasping circuit

- The party approaches an occupied root junction.
- Action
- Its antennae touch a live seam before the head follows with a short rasping rush.
- Counterplay
- Watch the antenna contact, cross onto a dead stone surface and strike the exposed underside during the root transfer.
Phase 2
Stolen charge
- Trigger
- Two shell conduits are damaged.
- Action
- Stored sap brightens under a segment before it is expelled in a narrow corrosive jet.
- Counterplay
- Move away from the bright segment’s vents, use the dry terrace’s stone lip and wait for that shell plate to empty.
Phase 3
False feeding route
- Trigger
- A warm drain leads into the dead-channel trap.
- Action
- It leaves the main root and accelerates along the prepared path, reversing if the temperature drops.
- Counterplay
- Maintain the drain until the tail clears, close both isolation wedges and choose containment or a focused final fight on dead stone.
The cost of failure
Breaking a sap reservoir over a living junction kills that conduit and redirects the outbreak into another terrace.
What remains
A contained individual enables controlled study; indiscriminate eradication is not framed as automatically beneficial. The visible outbreak and ordinary small colonies remain distinct.
