Weaving cosmic threads...

The portrait establishes Vesrane’s face, coat, mask and thread. The proposed face-omitting reflection is a story direction, not a clearly visible event in this image.
EXPERIMENTAL / Encounter concept / Keeper of Borrowed Faces
She lent the dead’s identities to people who needed to disappear. Now she decides who is allowed to become themselves again.
Vesrane began lending the names of the dead to people fleeing targeted persecution. A borrowed identity could conceal a family from a hostile registry. The process required an original name to be held in escrow, so one person could not claim several lives.
The emergency ended unevenly. The institution endured. Returning a name now risks exposing the people sheltered behind it; withholding it leaves a survivor unable to prove a marriage, inheritance or promise. Vesrane knows the harms in exact detail. She continues because she distrusts anyone who promises an easy alternative.
A refugee calls the player by a name they have never used. Vesrane corrects the refugee gently, then offers the player a mask. The person who accepts it finds that the palace's doors recognize them.
Recover a particular identity without exposing the refugees who borrowed from it.
She has a mature, particular face, ordinary human proportions and controlled movement. Her power appears through a small action: a thread drawn taut, a reflection losing correspondence, a mask turning toward a voice. Her expression carries more threat than a cloud of effects.

Current phase
Accepting a borrowed name changes which doors and sentries admit the player. A mask tilts before Vesrane redirects a route. Players must track their current identity through physical tokens and environmental response, not invisible guessing.
