The history
Morvane held the bridge during a refused evacuation. The standard’s residual Shadow corruption preserves a narrow occupation programme, not a faithful personality reconstructed from the dead.
A presence in the world
Bound to the physical standard and the garrison’s surviving command marks. Cannot leave the fortified reef or hear orders from an imagined opened prison.
Allegiance
Voidtouched remnant of a drowned occupying force.
Rivalry
Serath’s strikes damage his perimeter; he responds by tightening the standard’s anchoring lines and worsening the reef’s starvation.
The first encounter
A bronze faceplate turns beneath hanging cloth. The submerged bridge is suddenly cleared of drifting silt by a shield planted against the current.
Body and movement
Tall drowned revenant soldier with an enclosed salt-pitted bronze faceplate, waterlogged dark cloth, a broad cracked stone pavise and a long hooked military standard; no tentacles or coral crown.
Salt deposits, heavy soaked cloth, pitted bronze, chipped basalt; restrained Shadow leakage beneath faceplate.
Pavise-first lateral shuffles resist current. Every hooked sweep requires the standard to leave its socket, briefly releasing tension in one inlet line.
Encounter design
Remove the occupation standard from the inlet and preserve enough of the bridge for evacuation.
The arena
A submerged bridge with three anchor sockets, a low side channel and two air pockets outside the standard’s sweep.
Phase 1
The line holds
- Trigger
- A diver crosses the first command mark.
- Action
- He sweeps the hooked standard at waist height, then thrusts behind the shield; cloth tension indicates the sweep direction.
- Counterplay
- Drop into the side channel during the sweep and strike or release the temporarily slack anchor.
Phase 2
Broken socket
- Trigger
- One anchor is released.
- Action
- He drags the pavise to the next socket and pulls a current-driven overhead strike.
- Counterplay
- Watch the standard cloth lift, stay close to the shield’s rear edge and remove the second anchoring pin during the long recovery.
Phase 3
No shore to hold
- Trigger
- All anchor sockets are released.
- Action
- The standard loses its fixed sweep and Morvane advances with short heavy thrusts.
- Counterplay
- Lure him clear of the civilians’ bridge, separate him from the fallen standard and disable or contain the residual binding.
The cost of failure
Breaking the bridge isolates an air bell and changes the rescue route. A drowned or exhausted diver is recoverable only while a companion retains an anchored line.
What remains
The standard can be secured as dangerous evidence in a sealed transport case. The reef current returns without implying that all Shadow in the world has been cleansed.
