The history
The working was assembled from local roots and prepared basalt weights to complete the blockade campaign by land. Its title is an operator’s theatrical designation, not a sacred text or new cosmic speaker.
A presence in the world
A bounded root-fibre apparatus powered through existing Shadow-tainted components. Its effect follows six physical anchor lines within the ravine; it has no remote access to Malachar’s prison.
Allegiance
Void Ascendants, outer-road interdiction working.
Rivalry
Mordren protects the lines but must cross them to reach intruders. His reflection feint is disrupted whenever a weight drops silt into the water, briefly making their tactics interfere.
The first encounter
One basalt weight rises out of black water. Far above it, a matching section of the causeway breaks while the hanging root knot turns without a face.
Body and movement
A huge suspended mass of tightly woven black root fibres shaped into a long vertical knot with six heavy hanging stone seals; no humanoid head, tentacles or winged demon silhouette.
Wet black root fibre, rough basalt seal weights, a thin deep red inner light.
The suspended knot tightens before lifting a weight. Only the causeway section connected to that line fractures; inactive lines remain slack and readable.
Encounter design
Stop the local bridge-destruction sequence, secure the convoy and preserve an alternate crossing.
The arena
The exterior ravine only: six weighted lines, three surviving causeway sections, two anchor platforms and an identified downstream ford.
Phase 1
Tension named
- Trigger
- The convoy enters the exterior road approach.
- Action
- One line pulls taut, its weight rises and the matching causeway joint sheds stone before fracturing.
- Counterplay
- Trace the visible line, clear that section and pin the active weight from its remote anchor platform.
Phase 2
Paired loads
- Trigger
- Two weights are pinned or unloaded.
- Action
- The knot alternates between two remaining lines, forcing a choice of crossing and repair order.
- Counterplay
- Use the previously pinned line as a stable route, unload the heavier visible weight first and move the convoy only after the second line goes slack.
Phase 3
Working isolated
- Trigger
- All six lines are unloaded or severed at their local anchors.
- Action
- The central knot contracts into a short final pull confined to its own supports.
- Counterplay
- Withdraw from those supports, secure the last convoy line and contain the inert Shadow-tainted components without approaching the distant fissure.
The cost of failure
A lost causeway section increases evacuation time and may cost wagons. The failure state concerns the local convoy and road; Malachar’s sealed condition never changes.
What remains
Stopping the apparatus exposes the downstream ford and preserves evidence of the land blockade. The prison remains sealed and outside the encounter.
